South Orange County--San Joaquin Thrust Fault!

In California, earthquakes are a fact of life. They do happen all the time, and they can happen anywhere. Many people, however, do not have adequate coverage, if any, in the event of an earthquake. The San Joaquin Thrust earthquake fault runs along the coast from Newport Beach and Costa Mesa to San Juan Capistrano. Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Capistrano Beach and Laguna Beach are all very close to the San Joaquin fault. This fault has the capacity to produce an earthquake over 7.0 -- Yikes. The San Joaquin Hills thrust fault is entirely underground. Because there is no visible break in the Earth's crust at ground level, the fault is perhaps more dangerous because it's unclear exactly where the boundaries of the fault are. If you live next to this fault you should get earthquake insurance or at least find out the cost from a local earthquake insurance broker like us!
